Aquatics at Rolling River
The most important program at Rolling River is Aquatics. Learning new swimming skills every year is a crucial aspect to the development of all children. Swimming is a lifetime skill that increases a child’s self-esteem, enhances their cardio-respiratory fitness, as well as enabling an individual to be safe around water activities.
Instructional
The pool is one of our camper’s favorite places every day of the camp season. All children swim twice a day in one of our 3 spacious, beautiful heated pools. Whether your child is a hesitant beginner or a confident swimmer, Rolling River offers exceptional Red Cross instruction.
On the first day of camp, new swimmers are evaluated by the aquatics directors and placed into groups according to their ability. We never force non-swimmers into the water…we gently encourage them and give them as much time as they need to feel comfortable and safe. It is important for a child to be ready to learn how to swim. If an instructor does not display patience, then it can minimize progress made by a new swimmer. As children progress through the various Red Cross Swimming levels, their groupings may change throughout the summer. Red Cross awards, and other Rolling River designed awards are given at the end of the summer for the level a child reaches in the program.
In order to insure success for each child, we keep ratios of teachers to campers at optimum levels. For our Skippers (3-5 years old) our ratio is 1 staff member for every 3 campers, Mariners (6- 9 years old) the ratio is 1:4 and for our Navigators (10-14 years old) it’s 1:5.
Free Swim – Everyone in the pool!!!
This is the time for fun in the water!!! Carnival rides, water volleyball, basketball, football tosses, water polo, noodles, beach balls, penny dives and lots more are our recipe for excitement at Rolling River. And if you just want to practice your swim skills or just stay cool and wet that too is a great way to have fun in the pool.
