Transportation

The transportation policies that Rolling River follows when busing campers and staff to and from our campus is very comprehensive. These procedures are designed to provide all travelers with the safest and most efficient bus transportation possible.

Buses at Rolling River are:

  • Department of Transportation (D.O.T.) inspected
  • Air Conditioned
  • Mini Buses seating a maximum of 20 individuals
  • Fitted with seat belts
  • “Coach” buses with air conditioning, bathroom and a DVD player to show age appropriate movies when transportation is needed for more than 20 people. Rolling River does not utilize large school buses for daily am/pm bus runs and trips to local area events ( eg. Splish Splash, N.Y. City attractions)

Bus Drivers and Bus Counselors

All vehicles that transport children have a bus driver whose primary responsibility is to drive the bus safely and a bus counselor whose primary responsibility is to care for the safety and needs of the children throughout the ride. We strongly believe that it is important for the driver to concentrate on the road, while the counselor attends to the welfare of the children. All drivers are licensed and qualified, of an appropriate age and have a willingness to drive. Rolling River does not put young drivers behind the wheel with your children, and we hire professional drivers rather than force our staff to drive in order to work at Rolling River.

Drivers at Rolling River:

  • have the necessary licenses as required by New York State (Commercial Drivers License)
  • go through mandatory and random drug testing
  • go through an extensive training program with Rolling River’s certified 19A Supervisor
  • are required to continue in an ongoing driving practice program led by the supervisor of our transportation department
  • are 21 years of age or older
  • are hired from professional bus companies if we need additional drivers

Rolling River Extras

To maximize safety and comfort we:

  • always have a minimum of ONE Rolling River staff member whose job it is to be a bus counselor on EVERY bus that leaves our facility.
  • keep our morning and afternoon bus runs short…our director’s rule of thumb is no more than 25 minutes to pick up all of the campers that will be riding on a particular bus.
  • have all parents and campers review and sign a copy of “Bus Blurbs”; a clear, comprehensive listing of rules, policies, procedures and expectations for all individuals when riding on our buses.
